Ill visit the bones of my beloved Erie again with this photo. Known today as the Freedom Trail, it occupies what was the westbound main of the EL in Tallmadge, Ohio (near Akron). It was known as the Freedom Secondary under Conrail. The former eastbound main, still in but long unused, tries to fight Mother Nature but is losing the battle. There are many abandoned rail lines I have visited, but with most I never saw them when they were active. Thats not the case with these former EL rails- I saw them as living, breathing, rocking and rolling railroad lines that cultivated the development of my railroad interest in the days of my youth. Most abandoned lines I look at with curiosity. I look at the old EL lines with sadness.
