Illegal shops: Communities send petition to Kano State Govt. Some communities in Gama-Tudu, Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, on Thursday alerted the state government on the illegal erection of shops in Gama-Tudu Primary School. This is contained in a petition signed by two leaders of the community, Ibrahim Maryam and Mustapha Gambo, in Kano. They alleged that some individuals had erected the shops, which they allocated to themselves without recourse to stipulated legal procedure in acquisition of shops. According to the petition, the allocation had denied pupils right to improve their extra-curricular activities, thereby causing congestion, as the shops were built closer to the school gate. ``If this unpopular trend is not checked, the pupils will be exposed to danger and that the action has contravened the policy of promoting education in the state. ``The communities are strongly opposed to such a design and find it necessary to call on relevant authorities and stakeholders to effect the immediate demolition of the shops.’’ The petition called on the State Governor, Alhaji Rabi’u Kwankwaso, to take a disciplinary action against any official found to be responsible for the erection of the shops. Effort to contact Alhaji Muntari Kura, the Managing Director of the State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KNUPDS) failed as he was said to have travelled out of the state for an official assignment. However, an official of the authority who pleaded for anonymity, confirmed the receipt of the petition. ``Yes, we have received the petition and action had been taken. Some officials have been directed to investigate the issue,’’ he said. According to him, the officials have been mandated to summit their report immediately with a view to taking appropriate action
