Im 45 and the worst thing about growing older is that you tend to - TopicsExpress

Im 45 and the worst thing about growing older is that you tend to forget things - like the simple pleasures in life. Instead of a hallmark card bought from the hallmark store, a simple letter written on notebook paper; instead of your children wanting to buy toys - they would rather buy book; instead of your children wanting to go outside and play with their friends they would rather stay inside and look at their photo albums that you made from your own two hands - stickers, paper, die-cuts, markers, embellishments. Tonight my boys wanted to look at their albums and they wanted to look with me. It was such a great memory. They even looked at my own album when I was a baby girl and of their ancestors, which I have plenty of photographs of. It seems hard to believe I have photographs of my ancestors but I do. My grandfather was born in 1903 and his father (my great-grandfather) had him when he was 40. My grandfather had my father when he was 38 and then my father had me when he was 30. So it was nice to be able to show images of my great great grandfather Robert to my sons and tell them that he actually fought in the Civil War on the side of the North. And it was sweet to show them childhood pictures of my grandfather and his twin sister, Aunt Doris, both born in June of 1903. Doris would not get married until the 1940s and her husband would be younger than she is. Before she was married, she was a writer, a teacher, and owned her own cafe. Im proud of my roots right now - and it feels so good!
