Im a firm believer that the vast majority of marker rods available are simply too soft. The softish action of a rod with a test curve around 3 to 3.75lb will absorb, instead of transmit, the finer little bits of information that were looking to find on the lake bed. Having said that, most heavier test curve blanks are too thick an unwieldy to offer the feel required. The Harrison Torrix 4.5 spod blank is both stiff enough to transmit those finer details while remaining slim and light enough to offer excellent feel. Heres one I built recently for one of my regulars, Torrix 4.5lb UltraMatt blank, Fuji K series high stand off guide set, and ALPS CentraLock seat with minimal trim, finished with depth markers at 6, 12, 18 and 24 inches.
