Im a happy man today.. one week on German soil, and I am still standing! I am learning how to navigate the Autobahn, order from a menu without killing the language so bad, and just moved in to my flat today from the hotel I was staying at...all in all, a good day! Lessons I face daily: LEARN THE LANGUAGE: The folks I am renting my flat from speak no English, and I speak no German...but together we have muddled through and seem to come to a mutual understanding... I am keeping my tablet computer charged up with Google translate as the home page, just for being able to communicate... PATIENCE GOES A LONG WAY: Not just towards those around me who dont see the neon sign blinking DEUTSCHE ILLITERATE , but patience towards myself... I have had my moments where i feel overwhelmed, but they pass as quickly as an Audi on the Autobahn... i remember why I accepted this challenge, and i am heartened! More later... :-)
