Im a huge fan of the idea that in order to value someone in your life, that person has to have some sort of...well, value. And while Im a huge fan of the idea of certain special people having immeasurable value, the idea of establishing what you receive from the people you choose to spend your time with is a really good way to cut dead weight from your life, or choosing who to try and hang onto and who to let float off. Otherwise, you run the risk of having your social structure populated by energy vampires, drama queens, etc. It has also been my understanding over the years that most people, due to ego or pride or whatever, will consistently overvalue their importance in other peoples lives. Were probably all guilty of that to some degree. So....what makes you so great? Think about it. What do the people in your life get from you? Are you a fantastic listener? Do you try to cheer people up when theyre blue? Theres a million and one things you could be doing to show the people in your life how much you give a shit about them. Even a small amount of energy spent on a little bit of self-analysis could cause you to completely reevaluate how you treat the people closest to you sometimes. You might find that youre kind of a dick. Or a whiny little shit. Who knows. What I DO know is that most people dont bother to think about this shit until theyve burned a fair amount of bridges, and even then, they could just delude themselves into thinking that its everyone elses problem, and not a problem with them. They think that saying they care is the same as showing they care. But connections cannot subsist entirely on intentions that never come to fruition. Im kinda loving the shit out of my life at the moment, though. This was nothing but a shower thought. A steamy, lush-fueled refreshing shower thought.
