Im a little behind the times here in New Zealand so I just heard - TopicsExpress

Im a little behind the times here in New Zealand so I just heard about this, and you know how I tend to stir political debates... This teenage cheerleader from Texas Tech has become a social media phenomenon, and not necessarily in a good way, for posting pictures of her posing next to dead lions, elephants, and other African animals that she killed. I think you already know how I feel about this. But she claims she is helping animal conservation by doing these hunts. The backlash on the web has been mostly negative, and deservingly so, but there has been a lot of support for her from other hunters and people who claim she is right about the conservation effort. But as my South African friend explains, the $30-40k for these hunts typically goes directly to the farmer, who raises the lions for the sole purpose of selling them to rich hunters. The hunt is in a small fenced off area where the hunter rides around in a truck, and often times the lion is actually in a cage. Maybe she paid someone else for her hunt, but I didnt see anything that mentioned who she went through. Regardless, just another reason to root against Texas Tech. What do you think? Is this hunting really helping conserve the species? independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/kendall-jones-the-19yearold-cheerleader-from-texas-provoking-worldwide-fury-over-hunting-pictures-on-her-facebook-page-9578836.html
