Im a professional. Im impartial. I built a reputation on it. However sometimes certain things cant go unsaid - We are fortunate, I believe, to be witnessing something extraordinarily special in this young man Gunnar Nelson. I have been so blessed to witness many great martial artists in unbelievable surroundings in unforgettable locations doing unimaginable things. This young man brings that fourth dimension that I believe to be witnessing for the first time. An aura. An enigma. What is so refreshing is like every single elite Mixed Martial Artist I have ever came in contact with - GSP in Canada, Anderson in Brazil, Wanderlie in Japan - champions, legends and greats like Randy Couture, Benson Henderson, BJ Penn - I could go on and on but anyone whos had that gold around their waist - they share a single common trait in the fact that they are the whole, total and complete package. The way they are, the things they say, what they say - goes directly in line with their undeniable skills as MMA practitioners. The entire way these names carry themselves and the people they have around them mark them aside form all others. They are the total package and its evident why they are who they are and how they got to where they did. It is an absolute and honour and a privilege to be around and I learn so much each time. Back to my original point - this young man we can bear witness to I saw make his debut a few years ago - remember Karl Tanswell ? ;-) i remarked then that this guy was something special and thats before I ever spoke a word to him. People like this young man are the entire future of this sport and if thats a sign of things to come then it fills me with good feeling and emotion. All of his team, his coach John Kavannagh, his father Halli, his family, his entire collection and journey is a joy to witness. There are some fantastic characters and incredible people in this sport. Im just so glad to have met them and learned from it. Sorry for the long-windedness! Have a great evening :-)
