Im about to get into the booth to record the latest Tim Dorsey - TopicsExpress

Im about to get into the booth to record the latest Tim Dorsey book, but Im afraid this time Im not quite as excited as I ordinarily would be. After doing these books for over ten years, getting multiple nominations and winning awards for my work on them, the publisher has decided to cut my pay... AGAIN. I have had to re-negotiate the rate for the last three Dorsey books, taking a lower rate each time. This time they hired a new producer who told me that there will be no negotiations and I will have to take the lower rate or they will give the book to someone else. Please forgive me for ranting and kvetching about this publicly, but I know that many of you are fans of these audio books and I thought that you might want to know how truly under-appreciated narrators are in this industry. To be honest, I had considered not doing the book out of principle, but the idea of someone else voicing Serge and Coleman made me sick to my stomach. And I had the hardest time convincing Serge not to come up to NY and pay that producer a little visit... But in all seriousness, I do appreciate my good fortune in having work and being able to do this for a living. I just find it incredibly galling that my pay rate has been going down over the last fifteen years, while the suits are making more money than ever before-- in a rapidly growing industry which I have been a part of building. I got no problem with capitalism, just not the crony variety.
