Im about to post something that may ruffle some feathers, but its an honest quest for understanding... so when I ask this question, I dont want any smart remarks, NO slamming of anyone, this is to be a civil discussion and I will remove any comments that are deemed offensive. I understand the outrage of the recent decisions from the two grand juries not to indict the white officers who killed two young black men. I get the outrage and frustration, it shows theres still a long way to go in America with race issues... however, what I dont understand is the reaction of the black community (looting, standing in traffic, disorderly conduct...). Why not protest at the courthouse or do something productive? These actions do nothing to bring awareness to the CAUSE... Can someone please try and explain to me how any of this behavior helps to prevent the next young black man from NOT getting shot or thrown down in a choke hold? Or how stopping traffic will send a message to the next grand jury that injustice isnt tolerated? Or how looting a store will tell prosecutors they need to their job better? I understand the outrage, I do... but I dont understand the reactions, the two just dont match up to me... I know this is a touchy subject, Im aware of my white privilege (yes I am using quotes as a title not in mockery), but perhaps if I could understand why these actions are being considered helpful, then perhaps I can be supportive in someway... as it is now, this just doesnt make sense to me. There are so many other ways to get your point across and be productive... So, again, please be respectful in your response and let the discussion begin!
