Im an ethical, moral, philosophical, theological conservative. Im a Constitutional political conservative. Im a fiscal conservative. You may be the exact opposite in all categories. The public news did neither of us any favors in the recent election. The incessant broadcasts concerning two Republicans, between whom there was no discernable difference was not a service. I cant even figure out why they wasted time and money running against each other, unless it was a ploy to distract our attention away from real issues and the game of Three Card Monte could prevail. Equally incessant broadcasts featured two she-wolves tearing each other to shreds. That made me wish that they would kill each other off, that the dark horse might prevail. It almost worked too. The next days news featured a short that attempts to block the issue in this election by claiming that its unconstitutional. What? Its unconstitutional to obey the Constitution and get common core out of our hair? Figure? What really bothered me was my other choices. One candidate was too private a person to state policies. Why is a person hostile to the public, and so secretive, even clandestine, seeking public service at all? The opponent published no opinions either. I voted for the older of the two: that was all the factual information I could find. Another candidates entire platform was rank as a Lt Col, and a 2.9 college grade point, neither of which is particularly stellar, neither of which is politically relevant. The opponent showed extensive political savvy, but the name didnt sound American. There needs to be a name change if that individual intends to stay in politics. Still there were strong policy statements, even if I sometimes disagreed. It was a landslide against reason. Know this. The public press is not a public servant when it fails to dig this stuff up. We need credible facts in order to vote wisely. Know this as well. If I cant find your platform clearly stated on the internet, or stated in public news, or via a flier in my mail box, you wont get my vote if I have to leave the whole page blank. We need a state law that requires all candidates to clearly state their platforms on the prevailing current issues related to their office. I dont care if a board of education candidate is pro amendment x. I want to know what they believe about the constitutional issues related to teaching. I dont care if a corporation commissioner is pro gun. I want to know what they believe about the energy crisis (and No, the Keystone pipeline wont create a significant number of jobs or energy independence. It takes a real fool to believe that.) If they dont have a stated platform, their permission to run for office should be revoked. Youve been warned.
