Im curious to know why some people are so indignant over the mention of God, prayer, religion, etc. in a public venue. What is it EXACTLY that angers or offends them? What is it about the ritual of prayer of religious groups that inhibits them in some way? I most often read that it is discriminatory against MY beliefs...it is unconstitutional...it violates MY rights. Yet, what about the religiously inclined beliefs? What about THEIR constitutional rights? The protests against it are just as discriminatory, or am I the only one who sees that? The First Amendment was added to keep the government from mandating a particular religion above all others and allowing EVERYONE to practice their religion of choice without persecution. Are the anti-prayer or anti-God believers persecuted?? I think not. How have WE allowed this to happen...that a minute few can sway a whole entire nation to do its bidding, based on a personal feeling or belief? A New Jersey family is going to sue a school district over the phrase under God in the Pledge of Allegiance. It discriminates against their beliefs. The American Humanist Association...who filed the suit...says the phrase marginalizes atheist and humanist kids as something less than ideal patriots. Seriously??? Most kids dont know even what beliefs are, much less feel as if they are less than true American patriots! Fortunately, there is another New Jersey family countersuing. But how sad that something as unique and personal as God must be decided by government, and why are we allowing it? If the majority of Americans want prayer in schools and to say under God in the Pledge of Allegiance, why allow anyONE to stop it? COMPLACENCY. Cant blame the politicians or the groups behind the scenes masterminding the marionette strings of those politicians. Samuel Adams wrote the following in 1771: If the liberties of America are ever completely ruined, of which in my opinion there is now the utmost danger, it will in all probability be the consequence of a mistaken notion of prudence, which leads men to acquiesce in measures of the most destructive tendency for the sake of present ease. When designs are formd to rase the very foundation of a free government, those few who are to erect their grandeur and fortunes upon the general ruin, will employ every art to sooth the devoted people into a state of indolence, inattention and security, which is forever the fore-runner of slavery... For the sake of present ease...indolence...inattention...security. I really like the Audi commercial where everyone is going through their lives reading from scripts, until someone finally deviates. Its time to break from the script.
