Im doing my best to refrain from political speech here on FB, but today I just cant help myself. Are we, who know Jesus Christ -- who IS TRUTH -- are we not supposed to shine the light of truth wherever we can, and to expose the darkness of falsehood wherever it is found -- even if it is found in the political arena? This is why I just sent a Letter to the Editor to the Courier Journal -- a first for me, and an editorial I suspect will not be printed. It all stemmed from the political cartoon by Pat Oliphant in todays paper. Anyway, if you havent already tuned out and scrolled down, and are interested in the editorial, well, here it is: Oh, the cesspool of politics! Please tell me why you would print a cartoon by Pat Oliphant (Jan 31) depicting Mike Huckabee behind a pulpit spouting against women, taking his words totally out of context as if he and all conservatives espouse such things, when the truth is, he had simply used those words in an effort to describe the mindset of liberals? The cartoon itself is a blatant falsehood — and yet you go ahead and print it anyway. There was a time when it was expected that politicians would indulge in fabrication (if only occasionally), and it was the media’s sacred privilege to set things straight. Now it seems the whole of politics is in a race toward who can concoct the most outrageous lie and get away with it under the pathetic scrutiny of a biased media that is swirling in the cesspool right along with them. Now, I already emailed the editorial, but I wish I had added a sentence before the last sentence in the first paragraph, something like: Indeed, you might have good reason to disagree with Huckabees depiction of liberals, but that gives no license for twisting his words to make it appear as if that is what he and conservatives believe. Folks, I am so tired of politicians (from both sides), and long for some honest statesmen to arise out of the cesspool -- indeed, who have never been in the cesspool at all! For the sake of this country which I love, I would gladly jump into the fray myself, but I know I am no statesman. Indeed, I would probably be eaten alive! So, with this in mind, I pray for workers in Gods truth-spreading harvest, wherever that may be found -- certainly in His church, but also in the political, educational, medical and any other ...al where God wants to work.
