Im feeling somewhat disappointed. The roller derby world cups games ... Im not ever going to be able to see them. The problem? Pricing came out yesterday and its ridiculous. If you brought the pass to watch the entire thing online, you have access to their online archives. And THAT is the only time the online archives are mentioned. Theres no mention if whether the cost of a ticket to see the actual event might get you access as well. And they were selling a one day pass for the last day... what does that get you? Even more annoying is that they only mention this after the fact so its not like I could have brought a pass even if I was unable to watch the games just to have access to the archives... You can buy DVDs! $20US a pop... The 3 day pass was only $50. I know someones going to say $45... but there was a $5 processing fee or some stupid thing. The third option... wait until someone uploads it to youtube. Heres why this isnt an option: For it to end up on youtube is a breach of copyright. I know... you may not see it as serious BUT at every game Ive been to theres been a policy on photography and video and whether or not you can use it for commercial purposes. Even the photos that end up on facebook usually have a photographers watermark... In other words, those videos cant end up on youtube without someone being a great big giant hypocrite. So unless I know someone who has and will lend me the DVDs or the magazine that put on the tournament gets a whole lot more fair on the conditions and perhaps open up access to their online archives in some way... Im just not going to get the chance to watch the Roller Derby World Cup. Which, if you think about it, theres a whole lot of content that people getting into roller derby would be interested in, and its all locked behind inhibitive pay walls... In other words, it sucks for roller derby.
