Im finally getting back to painting after a long, rather traumatic week-end.This is a rather personal blog but as an artist I think its important to share the way things sometimes come together. Thru a rather unusual set of serendipity circumstances I was asked to put together a portrait of a vibrant young girl who died in an unusual accident in June. Her family are missionaries in Nicaragua. While I havent started the painting yet, images of what I can create go around in my head. I have also painted around 10 or so scenes of small rural villages with the main subject their churches. They have sold well and it has been enjoyable creating them. New Mexico has many very old churches and they are unique in some ways. I found out two weeks ago my second son,Lee had surgery for brain cancer in late June and just finished his course of radiation with chemo to endure come Jan. for at least a year. A benefit was arranged for him in Austin Sunday and while I frantically tried to e-mail some prints for the silent auction, it just couldnt be done. I had found out too late. Seeing pics of him at the successful event was shocking and hurts very much. This has all led me to a renewal of my own need for conversations with our Creator and my friend Jesus Christ. It is too bad so many of us push communicating with His Holy Spirit to the back burner until we are compelled to reach for His solice and healing for ourselves and those we love. This is a wake-up call for me and I hope and pray that Lee be healed and that I more prayerfully ask our Lord to always guide my hand and spirit. Thanks for reading this and I would appreciate prayers for my courageous son and all you know who need our prayers. Kathy Lee
