Im finding these get-to-know-me posts entertaining, so I thought Id participate. I was given the number 11 (ugh). If you like my status, Ill give you a number! 1) I was born in Merritt Island, Fla., home of Cape Canaveral and the NASA space program. 2) My parents worked for companies that serviced the space program. My mom transcribed many top-secret, classified documents, and my dad worked on submarine missile launches. Pretty cool stuff. 3) I lost my dad in 2002, three months before my first son was born. Its heart-wrenching that he never met my kids. 4) I am the youngest of five and have all brothers. And, NO, I was NOT treated like a princess. I also have three sons and a male cat, so testosterone has played a big role in my life. 5) I knew by the second grade I would be a writer some day. Today, Im primarily a freelance business writer and have written two books. I sincerely hope there are no typos or grammatical errors in this post. :) 6) Im a bleeding heart, and proud of it! 7) The Sandy Hook massacre rocked my world and drove me to become involved in the gun violence prevention movement. Im currently the communications lead for the Kentucky chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. 8) Being a mom is the hardest and most terrific thing Ive ever done in my life. 9) Im a complete political news junkie, but have only been that way for the past year or so. I guess that comes with activism. 10) I once got on stage at a concert with Tone Loc and MTVs Downtown Julie Brown in the late 80s. At one point, I took the microphone from Mr. Loc so I could say the line, Hasta la vista, baby. Unfortunately, he was lip-synching. :) 11) I love me some Morgan Freeman.
