Im from the generation that was taught to respect elders. To get up when greeting an older person, give that person my seat if need be. Never ever talk back to someone older, and generally never to interrupt when that person spoke. We were also taught to respect places and institutions. Of course we had to keep our voices low when in Churches and Mosques and all holy places. But also in Hospitals, there was no chatting in corridors or boisterous conversations that would disturb the patients..... We believed in Dress Code, which I know is now considered very silly! Still thats how it was, and I think we liked it that way....... We also had a great deal of respect for our men in uniform. The soldier, the policeman, the fireman. They were greatly admired, and children, little boys liked to dress up in these uniforms. Sadly this has now totally disappeared .......
