Im going on a rant because this is something Im so tired of seeing in this group and it really pisses me off. and it goes like this.. Simple conversation blah blah blah yeah there venom isnt bad unless you have an allergic reaction its okay as long as your not allergic an allergic reaction could kill you I went to the hospital because i was afraid of having an allergic reaction etc etc and any rendition of this idea. Newsflash from immunology guys. You CANNOT 100% CANNOT have an allergic reaction to a compound youve NEVER been exposed to. Its BIOLOGICALLY IMPOSSIBLE. You dont just willy nilly have an allergic reaction to something, not how it works. Allergic reactions, severe (including anaphylaxis) and non severe are caused by the build up of antibodies when your body gets exposed to an antigen. Three antibodies are produced with this exposure, IgA, IgB, and IgE. At any time if the IgE is present in more quantity then the other two, an allergic reaction will occur. If the reaction is severe it could cause anaphylaxsis. Thats another thing, this reaction would occur ALMOST INSTANTLY. If it hasnt started within 10 minutes of the bite then even if you do have one it will not be severe. Im so tired of seeing people getting bitten by copperheads or hog noses or any host of rear fanged or non lethal front fanged snakes and claiming allergic reaction, or a fear of one. And Im so tired of the uneducated idiots who know nothing about biochemistry feeding into their ridiculously wrong conclusions. And heres another thing, if youre allergic to bees or some other nonsense that DOES NOT mean youre allergic to hog noses or whatever else. If youre allergic to bees youre allergic to BEES, whats difficult to get about that? Do you think that all venomous animals just have the same venom? no. They dont your allergic to a single antigen, not the whole spectrum of venom antigens. Sure there are antigens whose antibodies can cross but those are few and far between. So lets recap, there are 5 types of hypersensitivity, Type 1 immediate hyper sensitivity, Type II antibody dependent, type III immune complex disease, type IV delayed type hypersensitivity, and type V autoimmune disease. Type I is the one you are concerned about when it comes to an allergic reaction and potential anaphylaxis. Again, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO HAVE AN ALLERGIC REACTION TO AN ANTIGEN YOU HAVE NOT BEEN EXPOSED TO. BIOLOGICALLY IMPOSSIBLE.
