Im going to compete on Sunday, but I know Im not going to win. I am not prepared to match the competitors in skill or conditioning. People spend time with motivation, concentration, and visualizing victory. But defeat is the shadow of sports psychology. In todays climate, we cant imagine losing. So when we do fall short of our goals it is even more devastating. Winning used to be very important to me. It validated my skills and I think its an important part of growing into the sport. But these days, my self worth is not tied to my performance. Its in my readiness for combat. My first coach, Jeremy Williams, taught us that we are martial artists first. And the first lesson in martial arts is: always be ready. Be ready to fight at any moment, be ready for victory, be ready for defeat. This Sunday at Dream Jiu Jitsu Im just excited and ready to fight again :)
