Im going to get up on my soapbox for just a minute here. Youve been warned. A recent news report came out telling us that the flu vaccine is only 60% effective. This started a lot of discussion as to the effectiveness of vaccines, why are we still vaccinating for things which are eradicated, maybe we should just let our kids get chicken pox or measles, etc. Why would you allow your child to be sickened by something which is not only preventable, but can have long term effects? Yes, I had chicken pox. I ran a fever for a solid week. 103 and above. My brothers had to go to the pediatrician who said he had never seen anything like it. I have now had three outbreaks, at least, of shingles. It is miserable. Its not recommended that I get the vaccine till Im 60. Yippee! 8 more years of possible outbreaks! My mother had whooping cough as a child. Dont think thats any more than a bad cough? Look it up. Children cant breathe. College students die from meningitis. Get vaccinated. Get your children vaccinated. Herd immunity only works if everyone who can be vaccinated is. There are those who cant get the vaccines. Their health is already compromised. We are playing with fire when we dont look to the proven science for the health of our children. Our grandparents and great-grandparents would be appalled if they knew we could prevent many of these illnesses, but just decided we would let it go. We are compromising the health and welfare of our children. There. Done. For now.
