Im going to say something that will probably initially upset a lot of folks, but read it through, if you want, with the knowledge that I am a proponent of feminism and equality in its purest form. In regards to the new comic book series starring a female Thor: Slapping boobs on Thor is NOT feminism. And people who think it is are cheapening feminism. Hear me out. Deconstructing something masculine and making it feminine is not feminism. Exalting existing feminine characters in Norse mythology IS. Freya and Skadi are two incredibly strong Norse goddesses within the pantheon. Freya is even considered to be the strongest of all. She is a warrior goddess as well as the goddess of love and beauty. Skadi is the goddess of winter and the hunt: two of the most influential aspects of Norse life. To ignore these two figures to cash in on an existing franchise with sensationalism and calling it feminism should be an insult to women.
