Im gradually starting to accumulate parts for my next (second) - TopicsExpress

Im gradually starting to accumulate parts for my next (second) amp. I doubt Ill actually start building before spring but here are two of what Im sure will be a lot of questions. Im planning to build a SE amp with 807 output tubes and a 12AT7 (ECC81) signal tube First question: Ive seen 3 choices of sockets for the 807. 1) Expensive vintage sockets. 2) Chinese made sockets that are all ceramic except for the contacts (screws go through holes in the ceremic). 3) Chinese made sockets that have a round ceramic insert inside of a metal shell. Both styles of the Chinese sockets are very inexpensive. Which is my best choice? Second question: I want to put a volume control on the input. Ill generally be feeding the amp from a CD player or a computer sound card (up to 2V). Ive seen specs ranging from < 10K to 100K for the load on the output of CD players. Most dont even seem to have published specs. My gut tells me that using a 50K dual audio taper pot on the input of the amp is a safe bet. Am I correct? Better choice? Many thanks and Happy 2015!
