Im heading to bed with tears in my eyes. My daughter-in-law was in an accident today. As I am reflecting on how today could have been worse, a lot worse I am reminded of my dear buddy, Jeff Abramis. We could have lost Sam today because some idiot was in such a big hurry. Rushing from Fort Mitchell to Louisville when we received that horrible telephone call all I could think about was how I knew my son wanted to be with his wife in her time of need; but with two little girls with him, and waiting for the oldest to get home from school he had to feel so, so lost and numb. (and of course the bus was late.) He reminded me tonight how far apart we lived. He needed us so bad this afternoon, 84 miles doesnt seem too far apart but damn today it seemed to be 184 miles. Walking into that emergency room brought so many memories from years past, My granddaughters came running when we entered, telling us their mommy was hurt. It about killed me hearing and seeing them so worried for their mommy. They wanted reassurance that mommy was going home with them, this is when I first started thinking of Jeff. That Monday night when I left his hospital bed, I knew it was going to be the last time I would talk to him, my very sick friend. I sat outside of the hospital for some time, trying to settle down enough to drive. I hope that Ill never have to play that scene again. Mommy did come home with the girls, banged up and pretty sore, but at least my little girls have their mommy home, safe and sound...
