Im hearing more and more instances of peoples photography and other art related pages getting deleted on Facebook and Instagram lately. It happened to me, its happened to friends, and Im seeing it happen left and right to strangers. Why are we as creatives using a platform where its so easy for trolls to flag our work and cause all our creations to be removed without warning and with no recourse to protest? Frankly, we shouldnt be. Facebook (which owns Instagram) should not be the arbiter of our creativity or our morality. I lost three years of work, and close to 700 followers, and yeah Im bitter about it, but its only a microcosm of a far greater problem. Lets stop allowing Facebook to exploit us to its own great profit until such time as it sees fit to remove our hard earned connections with our followers. I will continue to push people towards my Tumblr and Flickr accounts. If youre a creative, and you value your connections with your friends, acquaintances, and followers, I strongly encourage you to do the same.
