Im hoping someone may be able to give me some direction on this. I am a counselor at a university, and we have students here that are part of the Early College program, which means that they are college students while also technically still being high school students. They attend here full time and really dont have any more affiliation with their high school except that their high school will be the one to award the diploma upon graduation. My question/concern has to do with students in that program who may be under age 18 (and sometimes even under age 17) who come to our counseling center to seek services. What are the bounds of confidentiality regarding minors, and are we required to inform their parents that they are seeing a counselor in our office? If so, are there a number of sessions they can attend without parent notification being required?
