Im new to this group and Im looking VERY forward to meeting all of you in the future. I am elbow deep in Veterans Day preparations for my daughters school along with running this candy drive for the 4th year in a row. I started this when my daughter was in 1st grade when my son thats in the Army Reserve was deployed. A friend asked if there was something that we could do with the all that extra Halloween candy our kids got trick-or-treating. I contacted a local organization and we worked with them for the first three years. That organization is no longer operating so over the summer I reached out to Keith Maupin about the Yellow Ribbon Support Center and invited him to be a guest at our Veterans Day parade this year. He will be one of our grand marshals. We are very excited to have Keith visit our school and talk to our vets & kids. This years candy will all go to The Yellow Ribbon Center. If you have extra candy or would like to donate by Veterans Day, please contact me. I live in Deerfield Township - off of Irwin Simpson. I will be taking donations at my home as well - it all ends up here in my garage while we weigh it & store until we can get it out to the facility. I am home most evenings after 4 p.m. Candy can be dropped off at the school too. Sorry to bombard you with this as I come into this group - guns a blazin so to speak but I realize that this cause is close to the heart of the audience here! :)
