Im no botanist but there seems to be an interesting hot pepper situation here. Chere captured some of the chiletepins from Grandma Thompsons old place by the highway FM 1431 near Marble Falls several years back and has been continuing the legacy by planting them every year, For those that dont know, the wild chiletepin is a small round pepper that challenges the habanero for heat, yet actually has a peppery flavor. Many call it birds eye peppers and it frequently grows wild along the barb-wire fencelines as the mockingbirds love to eat the peppers, land on the fences, and poop out the seeds. In this case, we put a tepin in the ground along a fence line outside our front door. Apparently the bees cross-pollinated it with a local Italian pepper (honey and bumble bees love the small white flowers on these plants). Pictures are the end result. These are little pieces of dynamite! They will blow your pallet to another universe!
