Im not alone on being sick to the back teeth of Facebook deciding what (if any) of my contacts posts I am allowed to see. Im sick to death of all the empty click bait shit engorging my timeline, and Im especially pissed off at Facebooks latest announcement that users must use their real names or lose their accounts. This has been brought to the public attention by way of focusing on drag acts who, like many performers go by their stage names, for whom a Facebook page in their real names would mean absolutely nothing to their fans. The music industry is also a big user of stage/professional names (as people are perfectly legally entitled to do). Are people going to follow Elton John or Reginald Dwight? How about all the famous authors who use a nom de plume? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_pen_names - Its a stupid, insulting rule to suddenly impose on people. The REAL reason, though, is to defenestrate political activists, government critics and whistleblowers trying to bring the criminal actions of their governments or banks or pharmaceutical companies etc. etc. into the bright sunlight of public exposure. THESE are the real targets of Facebooks latest policy decision. Behind the scenes untrustworthy government secret services are desperate to shut down open forums for public dissent and criticism. We know now - thanks to Edward Snowden - that Facebook works intimately and obediently with the NSA, the FBI, the CIA and god only knows who else, serving up our personal data and communications for potential abuse. Every territory in which Facebook operates will have made its own clandestine arrangements with their secret services to feed them information on you and me, especially if you have been vocal in condemning or criticising or organising against the corruption which is all around us dressed in a hand-stitched suit and a shit-eating grin. Maybe Ello will be just what people need. Facebook has passed Peak Suck and will decline into irrelevance as is the natural way. Im willing to give it a go...
