Im not certain I agree with these particular words in an otherwise positive review of the movie. Cooper’s portrayal — while less than reverential — also reveals a man remarkably unburdened by conscience. Is this based on his Oh, thats not me. No. reply to the psychologist in this exchange? Psychologist: Do you ever think that you might have seen things or done some things over there that you wish you hadnt? Kyle: Oh, thats not me. No. Psychologist: Whats not you? Kyle: I was just protecting my guys. They were trying to kill our soldiers. And Im willing to meet my creator and answer every shot that I took. The thing that haunts me are all the guys that I couldnt save. In the film, I never saw Chris Kyle do anything that I thought was deliberately unethical, selfish or even heartless given his assigned mission and his ability to objectively run the math of how many more would die or be dismembered if he did not act. I do see him working to internalize the brutality that he saw from others... literal butchering... which he no-doubt viewed as savage. I think he did have a conscience... but was simply able to control himself to his standard and one that others could embrace... so that he did not violate that standard. Of course, he did violate Matthew 5:39... but all politicians, soldiers, police officers, school principals, teachers and parents violate this directive daily. Lo, the hypocrisy. https://youtube/watch?v=IiVDtNjORbY
