Im not digging this at all. Its only a small portion of the disabled population that are racing around in their wheelchairs. I mean, if theyre so capable, why not do away with handicapped parking spaces altogether and make them go from the furthest part of the lot? I mean, THATS the subtext of this guys idea. Its totally out of sync with the reality of disabilities, and old age. People who are disabled are DISABLED. They have heart conditions, neural disorders, seizures, IBS/Spastic colon, anemia and things that realistically are NOT going to have them racing around in wheelchairs. My own father is terminal, dying of COPD and has to be on oxygen, and cannot push his own wheelchair. I mean, this campaign is so far removed from the reality of what disabilities mean, that it borders on being disrespectful of people with situations that are beyond their control. Its like telling them to pull themselves up by the bootstraps and get over it. It seems callously uninformed.
