Im not getting into any conversations about publishing these days, - TopicsExpress

Im not getting into any conversations about publishing these days, in part because its painful to see not just such ridiculous destructive oppositions among writers who in so many other ways are allies--and who should be working together to find a way forward that preserves the diversity of the book-world ecosystem--but also theres a great deal of pain in having to observe the amount of counter-factual information being put out there. I never knew that so many writers had absolutely no clue about even some of the basic facts of how their industry operates or why it operates that way. To try to use actual bedrock fact to counter this avalanche of bullshit would mean Id spend my days doing nothing but acting as an ombudsman on this issue--and have to waste more time consulting on those bits Im not as expert on. Honestly, I am more and more convinced that our new religions are our factionalized ideologies, whose commandments we will adhere to regardless of any objective evidence to the contrary--and to which we adhere with such vehemence that there is no room for compromise: The hell with moderates! A moderate is just an asshole who hasnt been converted to my way of thinking yet. Those who do this--who practice a disguised, secret religion and present it as fact and commonsense--are doing great harm to their fellow writers, and to themselves. So thats why Im not getting involved. (And Im not going to engage in comments--youll have to police yourselves or go to hell all by yourselves.) - Love, The Curmudgeon
