Im not hating on athletes or complaining about teachers salaries, but the next time you want to complain about the education system in the U.S. And blame teachers and administrators, please first look at the publics attitude regarding it. Im talking about the way we place more importance on being entertained than educated. We fill our kids evenings and weekends with sports, placing an emphasis on always working hard, going the extra mile, and putting in additional time to improve their game and the money spent on individual time with coaches or club teams. Im a coach and I dont think these are bad things, but what would happen to our educational system if we put half the emphasis we do on sports towards education? I cant help but feel when the masses proclaim the importance of education it is merely lip service, because our actions dont follow our words.
