Im not into sentimentality and posting how my poached eggs for breakfast completed my day and set me up to face the challenges of the mean, cruel, heartless world. But I will, just this once, drop my guard. 40 years ago today (September 12th 1974), my life was saved by the incredible skill of two surgeons and the wonderful staff at Coleraine Hospital after Id fallen from a height and suffered a compressed skull fracture. I lost a lot of blood and, without going into details, suffice to say I was in pretty bad shape and the prognosis was very poor. In the intervening years I have gone on to lead a pretty normal life, achieving many things and experiencing the lows that come with this life. Tonight at 7.20pm, the approximate time when I fell, I will be spending time with the most wonderful gift I have received in this life, my son. And I will say a wee prayer to say Thank you.
