Im of the opinion that if we never trained with a niggle, small injury or a sniffle then wed probably never train at all. However, sometimes its necessary to think big picture & take the necessary measures to ensure you are still planning for longevity. Theres no reason to put yourself in danger of spending an extended amount of time out of the gym. Ive had an issue with my shoulder for the past 6-7 months that I just havent been able to fix despite countless physio appointments, massages, rehab work & modifications to my program in an attempt to alleviate the problem. Ive done my best to work around it & reduce the pain the best that I can, but its beginning to impact upon my performance in the gym. Being told not to train my upper body in the short term definitely isnt what I wanted to hear - but it does offer a few positives as well as hopefully allowing the inflammation in my shoulder to disappear. Not only am I feeling rested & full of energy due to a temporary decrease in activity levels, my squat has been improving out of sight. Increased frequency ftw Not perfect, but yesterday I hit 6 sets of 6 x 150kg (330lb). Silver lining feels. Full set. Peaking track available on Instagram @nickcheadlefitness
