Im playing around with height maps. You take an image file and make the darks higher and lights lower, or the reverse. This creates what is called a lithograph apparently. You can backlight it and see the image where the thicker parts are darker. Works good for window hangings and lamps. In addition to making my own electronics enclosures this way, Im thinking of printing them for others as well, either for free or for a modest fee. If you have an image youd like me to CAD up and maybe print, please send it to me and I will attempt to give it the time required. 3D printing is very slow. Just one lithophane 3 inches by 4 inches (75mm x 100mm) takes two hours to print. Really its worth it though. The results are personalized and striking for use as part of an electronics enclosure or other display. Sorry if i commercialized your em experience, its not about money for me either as those who know me know well. Im just glad to have something TANGIBLE to create now, not just breadboard circuits that nobody wants.
