Im posting this status BEFORE seeing Doctor Who: In The Forest Of The Night so my opinion could already be invalid but here goes. Ive had lots of people ask me why I dont talk about Missy in my reactions. I didnt mention the end scene of The Caretaker in my reaction and I didnt mention the end scene of Flatline. Why is that? Because I honestly couldnt give a single crap about Missy. Shes just there in the series! After 9 episodes shes contributed NOTHING other than having a mystery over the course of the series. The main characters arent aware of her, shes had no influence over the stories or adventures the Doctor and Clara go through and we pretty much know nothing else new that we didnt learn in Deep Breath. After 9 episodes, heres what we know; Missy is in some form of the afterlife (or at least somewhere certain people are sent after they die) and that shes observing Clara on an iPad. She MIGHT be the woman in the shop but its not been confirmed. The reason I dont care one iota about Missy is that Ive been given no reason to care. Is what shes doing to these people in the afterlife bad? Is she causing harm in the Universe? Is she even a villain? Shes wearing black so she MUST be bad, right? It feels like Moffats just because approach is rearing its grotesque head everytime shes on screen. Why are we supposed to be intrigued by Missy?. Just because! The main characters dont care about her and dont even know of her existence and after 9 episodes we hardly know anything about her. This mystery surrounding her character has been given ZERO momentum throughout the series and the scenes where shes in at the end of the episodes feel massively out of place. So yeah, Missy could be the weakest series-arc that Doctor Who has ever had and thats mainly because she feels like a complete and utter afterthought. This may change with her revelation/s in the Series Finale, but in terms of the build up and setting up the intrigue, Missy has been a failure in Series 8.
