Im re-posting a question and answer from a couple of weeks ago. I dont think my post showed up! Here goes... Todays question of the day is from Bob. He asks, Are there any taping techniques for achilles injuries? The simple answer is, YES! There are many different methods of taping and many different types of tape that can be used. Taping can be performed to either assist a motion or support a joint. The evaluation of the patient should guide this decision making process to best determine the taping technique to use. More often than not, achilles tendinitis does not present as the only diagnosis as there are so many structures (tendons, bursa, muscles and LOTS OF JOINTS) that are VERY close in proximity. That being said, many of these structures will also be affected and must be addressed. Just like any other intervention, taping is not effective for everyone. Kinesiotape has become more popular since the 2012 Summer Olympics when Misty May-Traenor and Kerri Walsh Jennings wore it during beach volleyball! Thanks for the question, Bob! See you all next Monday! Lets hope its warmer!
