Im really happy that the Ravens acted appropriately (and delayed) in cutting Ray Rice from the team. However- its interesting that there are calls to ban him for life from the NFL when we conveniently look the other way in so many other cases. You cant just penalise those that we see, and use a huge show of force to show how much we hate domestic violence, and pretend not to care at other times. Michael Vick- Current NFL quarterback who returned from prison and shocking animal cruelty charges. Jason Kidd- Current Milwaukee Bucks coach and NBA legend Jason Kidd was charged with abusing his wife, and also various other off field incidents, but is still fit to coach an NBA team. Mike Tyson- Former heavyweight champ Mike Tyson is known as a bit of a loose cannon, and his inclusion on this list wouldnt shock. But he actually spent years in prison for Rape- and returned. Floyd Mayweather- Current champion and possible future G.O.A.T. Mayweather has a VERY patchy past with allegations of domestic violence. These are looked over and not covered in huge detail due to his power in the boxing world. Regardeless, he has spent time in jail for domestic violence and has allegedly assaulted four women. Wayne Carey- Even in Australia we arent immune- one of our greatest ever players, Carey was charged with assault for smashing a glass over his girlfriends face. In summary, I absolutely support banning Rice as long as possible- but lets not kid ourselves and think we are making a difference. Whilst Mayweather is still the highest paid athelete in world sport, and Kidd a sought after NBA coach, and we still idolise past legends depsite these incidents, were not doing anything. Dont look the other way.
