Im really surprised that out of the 50 baby cedars and pines we planted from the extension office this spring fairly close together, not a single one has died. :-) They were planted that close together because losses are to be expected with $2 trees that have been raised in a greenhouse when you dump them out in poor red clay soil with constant winds. I think the tree tubes have helped them withstand the winds, rabbits, and deer. (And yes, even with me sitting there on the porch, once it was dark, the deer showed up to graze not 50 from me.)
