Im sad! Im disheartened. I am wondering what has happened to many of my fellow Americans. I have seen so much hate, so much blame, so many people judging and condemning a man who just a week ago was considered a Prisoner of War. I have been watching for years as local newspapers have discussed Bowe Bergdahl and the fact that he is the only POW from the war in Afghanistan. I knew there were questions about him leaving his station and whether he was a deserter or a prisoner, but when I heard he had been released I thought that that would all be figured out. After all, we live in a country where the words DUE PROCESS actually mean something. I know many Americans have gotten crazy since President Obama was elected, but I never thought the same people who were wrangling for Bowes release one week would turn on him the next because they hate President Obama so much. I dont know if thats whats behind this, but that was my first thought. It brings tears to my eyes. Even if it has nothing to do with our President, this whole thing disturbs me. KREM-TV, a local station, had the story about his town cancelling his celebration. If Bowe were here in Spokane, KREM had gotten together enough hateful people to constitute a mob -- and some even called for his lynching!!! And when I suggest we act like Americans and allow due process to work, they say things like I bet you voted for Obama twice (which I did). I dont know what that means. It sounds like a compliment to the President. I was told to shut up. I was told all the soldiers who served with him knew he was guilty, like soldiers dont gossip like the rest of us? I dont know what the true story really is. Neither do you. None of us knows. But this is the United States of America and we may not be the greatest country in the world, but we try to pretend we are. That is an impossible level of fakery if were not even willing to pretend to offer this guy an investigation and let him tell us what he thinks was going on, what was going on in his mind, what actually happened. There is no purpose for a military to protect this country if weve given up justice!! I suspect some of my friends, perhaps many of you, believe Bowe is guilty and deserves court martial. I hope not everyone has found him guilty, though. I am so discouraged! If I had gone to war, I dont know that I wouldnt walk away, especially after seeing children die. Ive heard Bowes fellow soldiers didnt like him. Ive read he was home-schooled in Idaho and was reared in the Calvinist faith. Just because hes different and doesnt really know how to socialize with other soldiers well, doesnt mean hes a traitor. AND THEYRE JUDGING HIS FATHER!!! His father said when Bowe was taken prisoner that he was going to grow his hair until his son came home. Fox asks, What happened? Lose your razor He looks like a member of the Taliban He spoke in their language. Like Jon Stewart pointed out, put a bandana on him and give him a duck and theyd love him just fine. I wonder what happened to all the right wing Christians (judge not lest ye be judged)? I wonder what happened to the Americans? How many lynch mobs could they form across this country today? Are they proud? Im not.
