Im sad to see that some people, in spite of holding bangladesh - TopicsExpress

Im sad to see that some people, in spite of holding bangladesh nationality and enjoying all kinds of rights and privileges as citizens, are showing disrespect to the countrys constitution, government, its legal system, and the majority of the people who are Bengalis. Im astonished to see some comments by some people referring to the languages used by the (non-Bengali) ethnic groups of Bangladesh as Desi language -- as if Bangla is a foreign one ! Im stunned to see their interpretation of the word small ethnic group as chhoto jaat, as if the govt is trying to label them as people inferior to the Bengalis! Then there is this issue of indigenous people VS immigrants! I saw someone even questioned- If Bengalis came to this land first, then why dont they (the Bengalis) celebrate the Adivasi day? As if an ethnic groups identity depends on the celebration of a particular day! I remember, when ganajagaran mancho was still active, the same person posted a status update objecting to the use of two slogans-- tumi ke ami ke? Bangalee, bangalee and tomar bhasha amar bhasha Bangla bhasha Bangla bhasha! However, at the same place many other ethnic groups were chanting slogans in their own languages that were being applauded by the crowd, and that was okay with him ! So why this negative attitude towards the Bengali people and their language? Someone defended his disapproval of the use of the word bangalee citing its lack of all-inclusiveness. If that is the case, then will they someday object to our national anthem -- amar sonar Bangla as well? Will they object to the name of the country because it contains the word Bangla too? Bangladesh belongs to all-- Bengali people, Chakma people, Garo people, Marma people, Tripura people -- all ethnic groups. No one ethnic group is superior or inferior to another. The super-intellectuals and FB-teachers do not really need to instigate one ethnic group against another on the basis of an issue as trivial as who came first. Whoever came first, Right to Equality, which is a fundamental right, is guaranteed by our constitution for all-- irrespective of colour, creed, gender and ethnicity. These rights can be ensured only by upholding the spirit and intent of our constitution, not by ignoring and ridiculing it!
