Im sharing this Slate article posted by Greg Tate with is commentary to accompany it… This article should have been called. Why does modern R&B radio have no soul, no funk,no insurgency,no politics, no groove, and no clue? Wed argue its because Jim Crow was the best thing that ever happened to Black music. To Black Creativity, Innovation, and Excellence in American popular music too. Because video killed R&B with crossover cosmetics, vulgarity, and mediocrity. Because were now living on--and listening to-- the downside of integrating a burning house- of a few affluent opportunists being paid very well to go to Hades.. That R&B history shows the price of freedom music is social death. Because The Lawd has decided Black people cant OD on America pie and be musically relevant too. Because Everything But The Burden 2.0. is real. - Greg Tate
