Im so Gary I remember going downtown at age 11 with my best friend Vanessa (WILLIAMS) Martin and staying all day long! We would catch the bus around 11am and be on the bus going back home around 6pm before it gets dark (lol)...We would go and get cookies from Goldblatts or Sears I think was the store...they sold cookies in these glass cases in the basement? The cookies were sold one by one. I could get 50 fudge striped cookies for .50 cents!!! They were a penny per cookie! We would go have lunch at Kretskys Diner...(spelling may not be correct) hamburger with fries plate including drink was less than $2. Wed go to another store and buy us some real musk oil for $1 . For $5 or less we paid bus fare to and from, had lunch, snacks, and shopped and went home with some change in our pockets..Lol Nobody bothered us...We were good and tired by the time we went home because Downtown Gary was a Real Place to go!!!
