Im so overjoyed to share exciting news with you and at the same time ask for your assistance- 2 days ago I sent an email to the Nationwide Claims Management Team running an idea past them- yesterday I received an email back from our Associate Director advising hes on board and so is the rest of the department!! YAYYYY!!!I have included the email I sent below but as far as the assistance Im asking ; if you have any extra coats that you would like to donate I would LOVE to pick them up and take off your hands- feel free to message me if you are able to help the drive - GIVE A COAT & SHARE THE WARMTH! MY EMAIL: This morning I opened my closet to find a coat to wear as it is getting a bit chilly out - Upon grabbing the wrong black coat I realized man, I have 3 black coats alone - a red one, a black and white one, a khaki one... moral of the story I have a couple of coats - I then started thinking about how many people will be without a coat this cold winter - I, myself, have not always been as fortunate as I am today... I looked up some statistics that made my heart swell with sadness- there are over 638,000 people that experience homelessness on any given day but its not just the ones that dont have a home that are finding themselves cold - 1 in 5 children are sent to school without a winter coat as for families experiencing hardships a coat can be seen as a luxury item. Throughout the holidays I know many people feel bombarded with the red buckets or giving away new toys or adopting families - I personally love all these drives but it gets hard to afford my own holiday when I am giving monetary items on a regular basis during the season. For this very reason I felt- why not give something that I know is a NEEDED item, an item that perhaps will go beyond warming a body and perhaps warm a heart - why not give an item that many of us have a spare to give- whether it be a childs coat that has been outgrown, a mens team coat that now you want to completely disown your team after a disappointing season, a womans totally last season coat, or perhaps you are like me and just a coat hoarder and you can find a few that will be better loved on someones body than in the back of your closet. I would like to throw around the idea of a coat drive - whether it be our team or all of NILC or the whole 3rd floor west.... We can separate the coats out into mens, womens, children and take them to the appropriate shelters or schools. How would you feel about this? Also - I think we could stretch it into mittens, gloves, hats, or old hoodies too- anything that we have extra to give to share the warmth! After all, here at Nationwide we VALUE PEOPLE! Thank you, Alana Berger
