Im sorry but I have to chime in on this. My Peggy has quilted for over 20 years so she has some credibility. Im the quint essential spouse. But during this venture I have seen, time and again, quilters who have sought advice when a customer, family, or friend asked them to make a quilt for them and ask if they should ask for a deposit or found the customer offended because they do. Im a numbers guy. When Peggy, and many of her friends, told me You should sell this. I needed to research in FB before being convinced. My point is, Why do quilters feel peekish for asking for a deposit? I would suggest you: 1) cost out all the fabric you feel necessary to make the quilt. 2) factor in your labor of love as best you can. 3) add machine quilting if you dont do it yourself. 4) get the total cost (with an acceptable profit margin). 5) tell the requester what the total cost will be. 6) THEN ask for a deposit that will cover at least the fabric. If quilters will do this they will at least not LOSE money on their quilt because they might be able to sell it to someone else. Tell me what you think. ---- Rex
