Im sorry but I really feel strongly about what I said in response to whatYvonne Morentin heard from SEIU, saying that SEIU UHW withdrew the training initiative: this first of all, was untrue. A representative from the SEIU came onto this Facebook page and told us they could not withdraw the initiative if they wanted to. And that is the truth. Okay, and now my rant: it was Not withdrawn; it failed. I do not agree with you Hannah Joyce Karpilow about the unions now. They created this capping crisis by unilaterally pushing unfunded overtime which still has tremendous potential to cause the tragedy of capping in 48 states -- a tragedy they will profit from. I believe it retarded everyone getting their 7 % restored and will eventually cause hours to be cut in our state when revenues drop and the full impact of the baby boomer demographic bulge hits IHSS in about 5 years. These unions refused to sit at the table with ADAPT, NCIL and other stakeholders to mitigate this harm and are resisting to again. SEIU 775 victimized Washington state workers and consumers with 75hr mandatory training and used worker dues to fund those campaigns that almost all workers did not want, and had/ have? every intention of doing it here. What maddening in the press is that they paint this up as a conservative versus progressives battle and its not. Its these unions versus real people, real mothers like Sally Coomer in Washington state, who had a go through the 75 hour mandatory training for her own child paid, $90 and union dues, and lost her Social Security credits when SEIU just decided to reformulate the way IHSS was delivered in Washington state. I will include a link to her testimony before the legislature. And of course, people with disabilities, the nonentities, the nonhumans are never discussed in these newspaper articles. oversight.house.gov/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/2-8-12_Full_Coomer.pdf I was told by someone in the inner circle of lobbyists that the unions wanted the CCI/ Cal MediConnect which is putting our IHSS in it and passively enrolling as we speak away from our doctors into substandard health plans, with incomprehensible about their right and choices, and putin IHSS in those plans too. The union was helpful in the early years but these unions are threatening IHSS as we know it and treating IHSS Consumers and workers as objects whose lives they can move around and play with at will. We need worker unions but these unions have been a nightmare. They must be replaced by people who abide by their agreements and do not play with the lives of their workers and consumers. We need unions who will collaborate with workers and consumers and do NOTHING ABOUT US WITHOUT US!
