Im spending a few days in Provincetown, Cape Cod, on a family vacation. Sitting on the beach yesterday evening I heard a dog barking and turned my head to see a woman letting a brindle bully dog out of her car. The dog barked persistently at her. Everyone turned to look. She asked the dog to sit, then to give her one paw, then the other, and the barking stopped. The dog was on a harness and flat collar, both attached to a long (50 or more) marine rope, and ran down to the sand, starting to bark like a maniac again. The woman walked up quietly, said sit, asked for one paw, then the other. The barking stopped, and she threw a ball into the waves. I watched them play for a long time, then approached (the dog placed the ball at my feet and barked until I picked it up and threw it into the water). I commented on her wonderful way with the dog (Bailey), and she smiled and said she considered it a compliment. So nice to see such positive and kind interactions.
