Im starting to think that some people are culturally pre-conditioned to not like certain genres of music. They go into a song, hear that its in a format that they have been taught to demonize and shut their minds to it. Ive seen this with hip hop and country music a lot over the years. So much of country music these days is emulating the pop format..which is clearly popular....yet some of the same folks that like pop music, wont even acknowledge the pop elements once they figure out that its a country song. Same with hip hop. Some of the same people that claim to love Jazz and Funk, wont even hear the Jazz or Funk elements, horn section, bass guitar, drums, etc. In truth I pity them. I get to enjoy a bunch of different genres. I used to blast my boombox with just as much Metal, and Rock and Roll as I did with Hip Hop. I saw those same attitudes with my peers back then. Oh thats Rock music? I dont listen to that. And then immediately go into the stereotype even if that particular song doesnt match it.
