Im struggling today ... so angry and disappointed right now. I had to stop putting up my Christmas tree and turn off the Christmas music last night I was so angry. This is a country that I served. A country that my uncles and cousins served with distinction. I love this country and think its the best in the World. Weve gotten to the point where a black man cant put his hands on his dashboard, put his hands in the air, reach for his identification, put his hands in his pocket or carry a toy without it being considered an aggressive move. A young black man cant walk in the rain or in the middle of the street being a silly kid. Those that really know me know that Im one of the most even tempered of people. Yet I cant walk to brunch with my friends without the micro-aggressions around my color. I have been questioned by police about why Im in a certain neighborhood, Ive been followed around stores, Ive had the car doors lock when I walk by. Everyday theres another reason to be angry and Ive managed to not be that Big Angry Black Guy! In my line of work, door knocking means I have to bring someone else with me to ensure I dont get shot while doing my job. Ive asked this but asking again. Before you judge the rioters, the protester and the anger, read what happened in Ferguson, NYC, Cleveland and countless other places across this country. Understand why the people in Ferguson are so angry. There have been 14 young black teenagers killed by the police in the last decade and not one charge was brought. The government there has been funding itself on the backs of the populace. A black man was murdered on video and still no charges. I dont believe all of this is racially motivated as Im not one to play the race card (NAIVE?) I believe these situations are class and economics masked as race. I dont know the solution but right now Im too angry to try and figure it out.
