Im sure many of you have seen our posts from our inaugural Creative Exploration Conference. What a week!! Leading up to and during the week I had no idea what we were going to learn and experience- and to be told we were not going to be using any makeup or brushes the whole week... I figured out quickly I had two choices- a) to be constantly in my head wondering what was coming next and how it was going to make me be a better artist or b) let go, trust James & Michael, trust the process. Stay present! I was constantly reminding myself. Having a few days to reflect and getting some new work back Im recognizing some growth in me and my work. Ive spent the last year taking every workshop & attending every event I can with TPG and I sincerely feel Im starting to recognize the hard work in my images! Whew! The first that I see is: There is beauty in the restraint. I often feel I have to fill in and do everything- in makeup, in relationships, in life. What this leaves me with is the experience of living for the next moment instead of being satisfied in the now. I dont have to perfectly cover every discoloration or blemish. I dont have to work, work, and over work every eyebrow or lip line. I can leave space for magic- magic in the canvas, the magic of the human spirit, the magic in me of being yet unfinished. And, in that, I discovered a second lesson- let go. Be complete in the incomplete. Its a mistake ONLY IF I CALL IT A MISTAKE!! Otherwise, its just another opportunity to grow, a happy accident, whatever. What James and Michael are up to with The Powder Group is unblocking and releasing your fullest potential. Not just as an artist but as a human being!! Im so down with that! This is some of the artwork we did this past week- watercolor, dry point etching, white line drawing & poetry along side a new image I received while I was at CEC. Before, I would have not shared it bc it didnt look like makeup, and wheres the artistry if Im supposed to be a makeup artist? However, Im super proud of the clean beauty and how fresh it is. So see whats left to participate in this year. Start marking your calendars for next year. Create a special fund and invest in yourself if you need to. I promise you its worth it.
